How to get cleared for participation

  1. Bullet  Regular clearance for athletics has concluded at this time. We will be doing one more day for students who did not get cleared during the year, but may want to participate in summer conditioning programs with various teams. That date will be March 18, 2015 during both lunches in CSI. This will be the ABSOLUTE last day, so please make sure you are there with all of your paperwork.

  2. Bullet  Spring football clearance will take place March 31st and April 2nd during both lunches in the CSI room. Cost is $23.00. If you already purchased either the $76 or $30 policy this year, you only need to bring your $23. If you did not purchase any insurance this year, you will need the complete the entire packet.

In an attempt to clarify the process, the athletic department has assembled a step by step guide that we hope will aide in guiding you through the clearance process.

Lightning Student-Athletes Give Back to the Community

Play ball! The Lightning Baseball and Softball teams joined forces with Krop’s Best Buddies on January 10th to host the first ever Krop Miracle League baseball game. The teams split up and partnered up with their player. The teams, Thunder and Lightning, had a great time. The morning was complete with a visit from Billy the Marlin! Great work to our Baseball and Softball programs for helping with such an amazing event and thank you to Miracle League for coming to Krop. We can’t wait to do it again!

On Saturday, November 22nd, a small group of six student-athletes got up bright and early to meet
Coach Morgan to make the hour long trek to Florida City where they spent three hours in the field picking squash. While the field was muddy from the recent rain and the weather was less than beautiful, the team stayed enthusiastic and helped to collect hundreds of pounds of squash to stock the shelves for Feeding South Florida. After collecting bucket after bucket of squash, the team enjoyed a lunch compliments of the Dolphins Special Teams, followed by a nice nap on the ride home.

On Saturday, September 20th, the Athletic Department traveled with 40 student-athletes and 5 coaches to help pack meals for Feeding South Florida at Sun Life Stadium. The students did a fantastic job and had a fun time while giving back to our South Florida community. For more details from the event, you can read this article and check out our photo album on our Facebook page (Krop Athletics and Activities.)

The Lightning Athletic Program is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association and the Greater Miami Athletic Conference. Lightning Athletics offers students the opportunity to compete in 15 different sports with a total of 30 teams competing at the Varsity and Junior Varsity level. We currently field 14 girls teams and 16 boys teams, servicing approximately 400 student-athletes per year.

Lightning Athletics has established a history of success, winning 9 State Championships and a multitude of district and GMAC Championships in its 15 year history. Additionally, individual student-athletes have collected accolades such as Miami-Dade Athlete of the Year, Player of the Year in their respective sport, and All-American honors. Most recently we were honored with the Miami-Dade Coach of the Year (2012) and two Co-Player of the Year awards in our tennis program (2013). Alex Knight also collected All-American honors as well as being crowned as the overall State Champion in 2013. In 2013-2014, 14 of our teams qualified for and competed in the district tournament with 5 of those teams winning the tournament.
