Coach Kypriss Named National Coach of the Year for Tennis

The National High School Athletic Coaches Association announced Michael Kypriss as the NHSACA National Coach of the Year in the sport of tennis.

Coach Kypriss was honored during The National Coach of the Year Awards Banquet at the National High School Athletic Coaches Association’s national convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 20, 2015. The highlight of the banquet was the naming of the NHSACA national coaches of the year in nineteen recognized sports categories.

Coach Kypriss was selected for this national honor by the state’s high school coaches’ association. His selection was based on longevity, service to high school athletics, honors, championship years, and winning parentage. The National High School Athletic Coaches Association is the oldest coaches association in the nation and has been recognizing national coaches of the year since 1978.

This marks the third time Coach Kypriss has been honored as a national coach of the year. In 2006 he was the National High School Federation coach of the year and in 2009 he was the USPTR USA National Coach of the Year.

We currently field 13 girls teams and 14 boys teams at the varsity level with 2 teams each at the Junior Varsity level, servicing approximately 400 student-athletes per year.

Lightning Athletics has established a history of success, winning 9 State Championships and a multitude of district and GMAC Championships. Most recently we were honored with NHSACA National Coach of the Year in the sport of Tennis (2015), the Miami-Dade Coach of the Year (Boys Tennis, 2015) and two Co-Player of the Year awards in our tennis program (2013).
